nina bowery

Nina's the founder of Little ProTechTor. She set the company up because her daughter had excema, and after seeing the impact it had had on her sister, Nina decided to do something about it.

She tried all the available medicines and treatments, but realised that if she could stop the scratching, that would really help.

She went to a garment manufacturer and found a new high-tech silver-impregnated material and started making the Scratchtite. The silver gives the garment anti-bacterial properties, and the mittens mean that an instinctive scratch becomes a rub, preventing the skin breaking and causing further infection.

'I had no business experience before this - I just thought sod it, this works, I want to get it to market.

'I've had support from all sorts, including local people and Business Hub on the Manor, for marketing.

'Living here's meant I can access all those services - they would have been harder to access in Dore or Totley. The area's lovely - great access to the M1!'

Nina's looking to expand, with new products in the autumn, and also wants to be able to raise funds for causes she believes in, including animal protection, through some of the products that are coming up.
