alison wooding

Alison is the Minister in Charge of St Swithin's church, and has been working on the Manor since 2005.

'I'm here because I feel called to be here - I turned down a job in London to come. There's a real rawness here, which is easy to work with - what you see is what you get, and people tell you what they believe and what they don't.

'We have kid's church here on a Thursday evening from 4-6. We have crafts and activities, a worship service and eat together - there's about 40 people most weeks, plus 25 older people who eat together at lunch time too. People come through word of mouth now - initially it was because I'm cheeky and would ask them.

'The best thing here is how people let you into their hearts so readily, once people know you're real, they'll tell you their hopes and fears and the deepest parts of themselves that not a lot of people hear. And I love the laughter...

'I hope we can become a beacon of welcome, hospitality and healing - the doors were locked for so long, I want them flung open. I want people to be confident in themselves and their developing faith, so they can do things themselves.

'People don't want answers here, they want to know you're listening.'
